I get a call from my cousin this morning. He's pulled a saw out of his garage. Hasn't used it since last year. I believe it's his 50cc Poulan. Takes it out, starts bucking up some stuff. Tilts it forward and it almost dies. Takes it back to level and it runs fine. Tilts it forward again and it barely runs. Calls me up and I tell him it sounds like a carb issue. I've never experienced this. I'm sure somebody has.

Thoughts?

Lol. I asked that. Full tank. First cuts.

Doesn't matter. I've seen Poulan's that have so much fuel line in the tank and gets squirreled around in there until the filter is up at the top of the tank, instead of the bottom.

Another issue is the rear limiter strap not holding the AV in check, allowing too much movement of the rear handle, which just happens to contain the throttle rod, that has lost it's reach because of it.

Also, fairly common with Poulans coming in for service will be fuel filter becoming disconnected from fuel line in tank. Sometimes after this happens, the fuel inlet screen in carb will then need to be cleaned out too.

There's a membrane inside the fuel line that sometimes comes away from the fuel line and starts to plug it up. It's clear and looks like a ribbon of clear snot. It's worth changing the line even if hasn't got that far.

If I can convince him to get ut to me, I'll put these ideas to test and report back. I've been thinking the carb has been flooding it or something. He aats it's hard to start too. Only starts with WOT. Hopefully by next weekend and I can get my hands on it.

We have the EPA to thank for that. Gas fumes can migrate through plastic so they had to put a barrier in the line to stop that which doesn't seem to be working out too well. Being price point saws, it's not easy to to put the best materials in especially when competing with the Chinese stuff.

Always check to see if the fuel filter has fallen off the end of the line on them cheap Poulans.
