I picked up a pro mac 8200 with a scored piston. I was hoping to find some details about it. What parts are interchangeable with other models. Will a piston from an 81, 850 work? is it even worth fixing. I also need the clutch cover and brake handle.

Nice find!

Unfortunately, that piston & cylinder aren't used by any other Mac model. A complete clutch cover with brake flag can be found for anywhere between 50 - $100 depending on condition.

The exhaust port was called the 'Q port' and was designed to help ease starting by letting off a bit of the building compression.

All that said, this model does get the interest of collectors.

If you decide to not take on this project, I might be interested in it.

The 8200 was kind of a red headed step child in a manner of speaking .It had a one piece or pressed together crankshaft and a 1 piece rod unlike the other 82 cc models such as the Sp 81,850 etc .It evidently came into being around 1993 and by then McCulloch motors as we knew it was quickly circling the drain .

The piston assembly listed for that model is number 300687 but that includes the rings, pin etc .It doesn't match up to any other piston number listed for the other models .Which is not saying the other models which are approx 2.057" more or less wouldn't work .I don't know myself .I do know this subject has arisen on several sites over the last ten or so years .I have no idea what the conclusion was ,if there was one .

Tell you what could be done .Pull the engine down and pull the piston out and measure it for diameter ,length of skirt to face, face to pin center and center to skirt .I have in my pile of junk a scored piston from an 805 that I can measure to compare it to

I considered if I couldn't find a piston that I could maybe measure it and come up with a piston that might work out of either a stihl or husqvarna. Does anyone know what the piston width it in metric.

NOS piston kits can be found at M&D but they are a bit spendy. If everything else is good it is certainly worth fixing. Depending on the day it is a $300+ EBay saw.

I have a couple of short block, one in a saw and one "standby", both have quite a vibration at high speeds, crankshaft checked out by Treemonkey but the vibration is still there.

$300 running or non running. I need a few parts for it like a clutch cover. From what I have seen or more accurately not seen this is gonna be a hassle.

Upon further reflection I came to this conclusion. Find a complete ,common Mac(like an 850) and swap that 8200 to one of the bigger Mac collectors for the parts to make the 850 whole.

Good luck with that, I kinda lucked into the 8200. Wasn't really looking for one. One day I may find all the parts I need.

If the cylinder is in good condition, the piston kit is around $90 from M and D and the clutch covers were $70 from Bill Robinson at Fayetteville Equipment. So, you are now up to $240 for a $300 runner on e-bay.

Other bits are all pretty available and generally not too expensive.
