Does anyone know if the unlimited coil out of a 5100s would work or even physically fit in a 421?

These damn coils are getting annoying.

I found this posted by @166

"The PS-5100S Grey 14,500 coil is discontinued and supersedes to the 13,500 Red coil. I've found the 5100s with the 13,500 coil runs betterand cuts faster than the 14,500 coil."

Now will this transfer to the 421, I do not know?

I'll chime in....the 421 is mine. It could be considered new. She has very little run time. It has only about 1 1/2 tanks through it. It is not broken in. I used it for a day, enjoyed it and put it back up on the shelf. I have a few other saws I enjoyed using more. I ran a 18" .325 on it. I had originally thought that I had run it with my 16" bar, but I have not, so it has been used very little.

The cat has been drilled out, but I left the "gills" that cover the outlet. So yes, it is pretty restrictive still.

Excited to see what Joe can do with it
Thanks for your contribution to the betterment of mankind. (Or at least us anyway)!

This oughta be a good one[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

510/5100 coil looks the same but will not work in a 420/421

That is what I was afraid of...

Deja vu, I hate coils....

I have to thank Joe for taking this project on. He's a good man.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity.

Gonna get started tomorrow, gotta make all my "tools" for this lil fella.

Damn Pat, I agree with you again. I see a trend here.

Can't wait to see what Joe does here. I personally can't see it beating the echo 490. After all, there's no replacement for displacement. If both are properly ported, as Joe will do, the 8cc's has to give the echo the edge.

Well here goes...

People were wondering how a ported 421 would compare to a ported echo 490. Well I plan to find out. A member was nice enough to send me a very nice 421 to play with "for the good of the community " lol he can chime in if he feels the need.

Saw has a mild muffler mod, and limiters removed 5105 rim drum. I set up with 18" picco ps.

Not to shabby for a lil fella.

The competition. Same bar, chain, and log.

Weight in hand feels almost identical, the dolmar is definitely smoother in the cut. Tends to bog really easy but it is a 42cc saw and 18" bar.

Just my first impressions.

Feel free to mention things you want to see.
When I get done with the 5105 I'm moving on to these. So subbed as your gonna make my job a bit easier. Lol. Thank you!

What's the average squish with the base gasket removed on the 421? Some of them to tight?
