Well here goes...

People were wondering how a ported 421 would compare to a ported echo 490. Well I plan to find out. A member was nice enough to send me a very nice 421 to play with "for the good of the community " lol he can chime in if he feels the need.

Saw has a mild muffler mod, and limiters removed 5105 rim drum. I set up with 18" picco ps.

Not to shabby for a lil fella.

The competition. Same bar, chain, and log.

Weight in hand feels almost identical, the dolmar is definitely smoother in the cut. Tends to bog really easy but it is a 42cc saw and 18" bar.

Just my first impressions.

Feel free to mention things you want to see.

Dolmar torque is a little lower in the rev band i believe ...Max power is around the 9500rpm but they give the Max Torque figure at around 6500 rpm in standard form.

I'll chime in....the 421 is mine. It could be considered new. She has very little run time. It has only about 1 1/2 tanks through it. It is not broken in. I used it for a day, enjoyed it and put it back up on the shelf. I have a few other saws I enjoyed using more. I ran a 18" .325 on it. I had originally thought that I had run it with my 16" bar, but I have not, so it has been used very little.

The cat has been drilled out, but I left the "gills" that cover the outlet. So yes, it is pretty restrictive still.

Excited to see what Joe can do with it

I hope this is ok as well. Man I am so excited you are doing this. I subbed to your you tube channel!

Feel free to add anything constructive to this thread.

I just got the bars that the 490/421 are going to be tested with, gotta grab a couple new loops of ps tomorrow. Plan on adding a 241 into the mix just for another stock comparison.

Being a ported 421 or 490 is not much more $$$ than a stock 241

Anybody know if the 421 has a limited coil? If it does at what rpm?

I would think so but not certain. Hopefully he will know. The manual says 13500 max engine speed.
