Ported 5105 vs 6100

I don't mind supporting my local dealer, and they are a good price. Plus I haven't warmed up to the Makita name yet.

What else do the have for dolmar branded saws?

The 6100 is a great saw, and once ported can be stronger than a 562 while being old tech and easy to maintain. I just don't like the ergos and feel. The 5105 on the other hand, especially given that you have a 6400 (which can become a 7900 pretty easily) would be a great addition to it, especially once ported.

Ported 5105 for the win Hands down. Send it to Carl @Miller Mod Saws . You won't be disappointed. He has this saw figures out.

If you'da walked into one of those old 346 build off's from years ago with that 5105 of yours, there may have been a German ass whooping take place. It's hell for stout.
And I run a 20" 3/8" on my stock 5100S for wood cutting duty.

I normally run 3/8 20” on my Poleman 5100s. I did at one point try a 24” bar on it and I was surprised how well it turned it.

Later I picked up a 6100 that was stock except a muffler mod but I sadly did not still have that 24” to try on it. Both are nice saws. The 6100 was physically larger, but much better filtration. Both are extremely smooth cutting saws. 5100s are pretty hot stock....ported it’s an animal. I’d love to run a ported 6100 sometime.

I liked yours well enough, I ordered one from Carl. He got a batch of the last Dolmar branded 5105's.

And I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but the 6100 holds alot of fuel and oil.

5105 15.9oz gas/ 9.1 oz oil
6100 27 oz gas/ 16.2 oz oil
7910 25.36 oz gas/ 14.20 oz oil.

I think a guy could use a 421-5100-6100 and a 7900!
421- 16 inch 3/8 lp
5100 - 18 inch .325 or 3/8
6100- 20 inch 3/8
7900 - 24 inch 3/8

I got to try your 5105 just after Carl lit it’s fuse. It really pulls and does it smoothly. My 6100 is nice but a bit bulky. I’m thinking the ported 5105 might be a better ticket.

Thanks for all the info. I really want a ported 5105, but wanted to know if i was missing something. Really liking what I have seen of Miller's toys. I'm kind of an oddball cause I really don't care if I ever use a 70 plus size saw anymore. Don't care to split the big rounds.

That was the first ported saw I bought off of a video. And a friend running it at a GTG.
