That 362 have a 7 pin rim on it? Definitely shouldn't be an 8. If you're going to run a 24" bar buried in oak frequently, he might be happier with semi or full skip chain.
Where are the chain's depth gauges set? Some setups just work better with less aggressive depth gauges. If they're too deep, the chain grabs a lot and stalls the clutch. Personally, I've never felt that the 362 was "peaky".
