I’m back home today. The original echo that showed 40% ejection fraction (output of blood from the ticker) and that the center of my heart wall wasn’t pumping due to a heart attack or dead tissue was erroneous due to the extreme instability of my heart rhythm. I have a severe arrhythmia that’s causing most of my problems. The heart cath showed a normal heart other than a lower ejection fraction that they think is cause by my arrhythmia. I got several new meds, I wear an event monitor for the next month, and they’re sending me to saint Louis to see a doc that specializes in arrhythmia. Looks like I’ll have an ablation procedure to isolate the bad electrical parts of the heart and kill the signals. Long story short, I have heart failure, but it’s pretty treatable with meds and this procedure. They said I’ll feel better than I have in a long time because all my organs will be receiving more oxygenated blood than they were. Lifestyle changes including more exercise, less good food, and less beer are in order.

Thank you all for the kind words and your support. This scared the crap out of me and has been an eye opening experience. Really changes my thoughts on what’s important and what isn’t.

I've had that problem off and on in my life. The first time I got grounded as a pilot in the Army.

My potassium level was very low and they pumped me full of potassium, but it would still start dropping. I did some independent research and found out that if your magnesium level was low, then it didn't matter how much potassium they gave you, you couldn't maintain the potassium level.

I started taking some magnesium with the potassium and things leveled out.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: By the way, I'm 72 and still kicking.

You're absolutely right about magnesium. It is a large problem with countless people and they don't even know it. Magnesium regulates the electrical signals within the heart and that is what Dustin is dealing with. It's possible he has arteriosclerosis (blockages) but it might not be that at all, might just be the electronics is off. Everyone... regularly eat your dark chocolate and almonds. Or dark chocolate covered almonds!

EDIT: I see that Dustin reported back and does not have arteriosclerosis. That's good! Here's to better electronics!

I've gone through some of the things you have and you're right about diet and life changes. If you smoke stop and if you're overweight like I am then a diet is in order. I was told to cut out almost all salt in foods. It's hard but you'll have to remember to take your meds the same time every day...Prayers sent...

Prayers for you in this time. You will come out on top of this.

A few years ago, Mrs. Geek was having arrhythmia events, and it took over a year for the docs to isolate it and actually get a clean readout of what was happening. She had 2 nerves trying to trigger the one ventricle, and they would get just a little bit out of sync from time to time, which sent her heart racing. She got a catheterization, and they zapped one of the nerves. It's been 3 years, and she's been 100% ever since.

Don't give up, and don't lose hope. Trust in HIM, and do what the doctors say. They can fix you up.

I've had a very similar experience to yours. I hesitate to share because I am not a physician. I was very young as well. They put me on medicine that made me feel like a walking zombie. I had the ablation and have never took another pill for the issue. All is well and that has been quite a few years ago. I am praying for you!

Fantastic news indeed, there are great treatments for your issues and I know several people who never had another issue after ablation. Lifestyle changes are hard to swallow initially, but they're just things you probably should've been doing anyway, and following them will make you feel in-control and positive. It's certainly a good reset button to help you step back and look at what's important!

Ablation is not always successful but if it doesn't work they can put in a device to straighten you out. Best wishes on your next saw purchase after you heal.
