I took a cylinder off a Pioneer Parner P42 yesterday and a Pioneer Farmsaw.
The cylinders and Pistons are the same, except for the compression release.
The P42 tag says it's a cbW, single reed, maybe the cylinder was changed before.
I think the P 42 cylinder is repairable just needs some transfer cleaned up.
The piston and cylinder in the farmsaw are like new. I will be taking a pp39 apart today to see what it looks like.

It is, not all the way thru, the one on the farmsaw is good, metal reed so I might get a new double reed to use on the P42. JB weld the cracked one, maybe.
I'm taking apart a P40, pioneer farmsaw, PP39 and the PP42 see what I have,
The Farmsaw is like brand new inside, never taken one apart that new. I think the recoil went and it was put on a shelf.
Because of the recoil problems I'm going to use the parts on it for the other 3. I think the P 39 might be a boost port also.

My p41 to 42 conversion is sitting here waiting on a new flywheel. It has brand new piston and cylinder Ignition reed block. Boyesen double reeds and rebuilt carb. I cant wait to hear it run

With most modern pro saws all being pretty much the same design dressed in different color clothes, these P-series Pioneers remind us what 'could be' if the saw game gene pool is healthy. Its one saw brand I have on my bucket list to own, they were pushing the boundaries and doing stuff no one else was. We're worse off without saw co's like Pioneer & Mac around.

A p42 flywheel does not work. Or at least the one I received

Got the correct flywheel. Come to find out my new coil is junk. I'm sure Larry at rottmans is getting annoyed with me. I put a cheap homelite coil on it for now. Guess I'll see how it cuts tomorrow.

A nice mid size P series to build, the 62 and 655 big brothers are the next step up.

A p62 is always better with the 655 top end lol. Have you taken yours out recently? I need to get mine out. Been running the modern saws a lot lately. It's time for some old school Pioneer fun. Oh and nice saws btw Jerry.
