Unfortunately me and the others have had very different experiences. :( Maybe Stihls like me cause I like them. lol

TJ,

I think it has more to do with the fact that you work for a Stihl dealership and are probably for the most part dealing with newer and better cared for units. I am the mechanic at a hardware store that does repairs, I see the bottom of the barrel. Old units that are truthfully past their service life and have in many cases been run on the lowest quality fuel and mix oil and had little to no maintenance. I make my judgements based on how well a unit will stand up to abuse/neglect and the 4-MIX in my experience just does not, too precision and will not tolerate being out of spec at all.

I am also a mechanic, we're not just a stihl dealership either, we sell echo as well and the rest is atv and utv. I've seen some pretty nasty stuff.....stuff I thought was only capable of the nuts that are in this town. lol I'm basing my judgments of these units off my own experiences....these two 10 year units are mine and I've abused them....but I just do the simple maintenance which is something most customer's don't. About 90% of the units that come in are fuel system related....but when they come in it looks like they haven't been cleaned or cared for since they were knew. I've checked history on many and a lot of the km90 or fs90 units I work on are at least 4 years old. Maybe they are better cared for, but from what I have seen I doubt it. The valve clearance is the main thing, they will run OK being loose....but still not right. Funny how experiences can be completely different.
The customers round here will run something into the ground....then complain it needs work. They all seem to think water in the fuel shouldn't be an issue......units should be able to sit for a year and fire up with the same old fuel. List goes on.
