Next to my bench at the shop, Oregon
there 4 mix sucks.
Stihl's 4 mix is flawless if taken care of like any unit should be. Had mine for 10 years and have never had one issue yet. Only time one has come into the shop is either from sitting for over a year....or needed the valves adjusted. Only two outta all the ones I've worked on needed new coils. My KM90's have been abused hard for hours on end and never quit. Just make sure I do normal maintenance....clean the air filter....make sure the plug and fuel filter are changed once in awhile...check the valves....no issues here.

I HATE 4-MIX with a flaming purple passion! Leave it to a German engineer to come up with an engine design that lubricates the bottom end on the EXHAUST STROKE!!!!! (Ok I know it lives on the intake stroke, but the port into the crankcase is opened on the exhaust stroke as well and all of those hot gasses and burned hydrocarbons are free to mingle with the lube in the bottom end, rediculous). Have you ever had one apart for a seal job, they are nasty, sludged up bad every time. They eat bearings like candy, had a landscaper last summer have three BR600s blow a main bearing in a month. Never had one apart that didn't need the cam replaced, some the lobe was wiped so bad I am amazed that it would run at all. When I worked for the Stihl dealership I lost track of how many came in with a dropped valve and a great big hole in the piston. And while we are on the topic what were they thinking making a fan that SCREWS DIRECTLY TO THE CRANKSHAFT and has to be removed to get to the engine mounting bolts???!!! Why not use a hub that will pass through the fan housing and four mounting screws like every other manufacturer? Those fans tighten as they run, I have broke two flywheels, snapped three cranks, and knocked a hole in a piston trying to get them off in the past!

Ironic that a thread about pigs gets derailed onto stihl 4 mix.:risas3:
I like my HT 131......notice I said like and not love.4 mix serves the pole saws well.trimmers not so much.
I like Onan don't care for the design.same group had to have a hand in the flip cap design.of course with the epa tightening down i'm sure they had to turn to something since they apparently didn't have their hands on stratocharging technology.when the 4 mix came out I was looking for them to switch chainsaws over to 4 mix.I'm sure they would have been absolute torque monsters for a short amount of time.we'd really been in a pickle blowing out crank bearings and dropping valves in the middle of a cut though.:risas3:
I've had two guys bring me fs90's and one had ball bearings bouncing and melted bearing cage goozed up in the bottom end.only tore one down and threw it in a box.i'm afraid to tear into the other because it feels much worse.
I won't touch one of the backpack blowers.either working on it or using it.even the Bg86 two stroke hand held have broke me from stihl blowers.i've caught myself leaving both of mine out in the open in hopes that some meth head would swipe them so I could buy huskys.

Was going to be looking at a kombi head now Iam not if there a 4mix. I didn't like the idea of extra weight before sure as hell dont like the poor reliability

mine dropped valves the next one suffered from a valve seat problem.
a regular two cycle blower cured my problems.
