Yup, from my research all V8s are problematic and to be avoided. The cylinder deactivation has been a disaster. When I first learned of it, I thought that was a bad bad idea. Just having active pistons dragging dead pistons thru the motions seemed counterproductive.

The other day when picking up the new wheels and tires, I had to travel over some mountains and took the opportunity to slam the pedal into the floor. Impressive. The 305hp even with this very heavy truck felt very strong and responsive. Smoothly shifted down several gears and raced forward with little effort.
The only time it will feel underpowered is with a pretty decent size box trailer at elevation. We’re in flat area about 1200 ft above sea level and the pentistar does ok here in the ones I drove. It won’t keep up to my 2.7 ecoboost but it shouldn’t either especially at elevation.

This happened a few weeks ago.

Some scary sheit ->
I was out to make a grocery run, and the truck was misbehaving. The gas pedal felt weird. Felt funny to the foot, would maintain speeds with my foot off the gas pedal. I pulled off at a rest stop and stopped the truck and cut the engine. Decided to restart to see if there was any difference and the engine raced to redline, and all kinds of lights were lit up in the dash. Cut the engine again, restarted, and again racing engine all kinds of lights. Turned if off and did the only thing I could think of. I put the dog on the leash and went for a long walk. My mind was flooded with WTF!

Then I remember it was something to do with the pedal. Walked back to the truck, looked at the pedals. OMG, the pedal is missing. How can a pedal be missing? For a second and a half, I was in a state of panic. What happened to my gas pedal?!?!?!

Then I saw it, the rubber mat, that I had taken out the day before to clean was miss placed and covering the pedal. I pulled the mat, put it back correctly, restarted the truck and all was good. Wow! This was a first for me. Completed my trip and all is 100% again.

Whew!

In hindsight; Black mat, black flooring, black pedal, it was bound to happen.

Boy, when I saw you post again on this thread I thought, "Oh, no!"

Yep, I've had that happen in a couple of vehicles with the big Husky-type mats. I'm long-legged and have to push back a little with my feet when I get in and out of a vehicle, and a couple of times the mat has squirmed up over the accelerator. I've had them get up under the clutch pedal, too, and keep it from going down far enough to hit the safety switch, and the vehicle wouldn't crank. I try to be more careful now and keep an eye on the mats but if something doesn't feel right I always take a look. On my F250 I've ended up tying the mats to the front seat anchors to keep them in place.

Yes, It's scary when vehicle controls don't act like they should, especially when you're moving!

A neighbor of mine had a can get under the brake pedal of his tractor, while he was going downhill. He's lucky to be alive and the tractor was major f'd. He had to take a loss and traded what was left for a replacement tractor.

So far the truck is great. One problem, minor, was getting the optional auto parking brake to work. I remember the salesman trying to show this feature to me, and he could not get it to work. I said, don't worry about it, I'll figure it out. This was as I was taking delivery, after the truck had been in the service dept for 34 days. I thought they knew of this problem and rush it out the door to get under the 30-day lemon law. :teeth: Well I tried every combo, engine running, not running, parking brake on, parking brake off, foot on the pedal, foot off the pedal, etc. etc. and nothing worked. Then one day, after I had decided to live with it, it started working. Has been working for a month. Go Figure! :thumbsup:

All I have to say is my 4runner starts every time it turn the key and gets me from point a to point b. Good to hear the truck is more or less working though!

Tractors can be scary. Especially with a FEL with a load or a load on the back.

Or when you loose all brakes and steering going downhill!

All I can say is, it feels downright weird to have a tractor with completely functional brakes and low effort automotive style power steering. The tractors I grew up on had armstrong or slightly better than nothing power steering and brakes that worked about halfway when they did work at all. I think it made me a better driver, since I had to constantly look ahead and think about where I was going because stopping or turning around might not be an option!
