Another thing to remember is that auction fees and forced returns can eat you up. I once sold a mini mac that ran great to a dude on Fleabay. Guy wants to return it because the starter cord broke on this 20+ year old saw. I told him how to fix it, even offered to send him a new cord and handle. Nope, he wants his money back. I refused on the grounds that it was an old used saw and the cord was not broken when I sent it to him. Fleabay made me eat the return.

Yeah, I won't sell a running saw on eBay anymore. Just too many scammers out there getting something, using it and then wanting to return it. Stores like Home Depot and Lowes wind up "renting" stuff for free all the time as people buy something for a job, use it and then return it for whatever excuse they can come up with. It's stealing but I don't think people look at it that way.

I was wondering what the opinion is on parting out a good running saw or selling whole. Some saws, unfortunately, are worth more parted out. However, I hate to part out a good running saw.

you should try to sell the saw complete, its a sad thing when rare saws get splitted up in parts

I find it senseless to part out a running saw. I part out a saw only when there is nothing I can do to get it running again. I may have only got three left that meet that category -- all made by Poulan within the last 12 years -- the famous wild things. I've used parts from those to save three others that would otherwise have joined the same cemetery.
