Guy brought in a 450 husqvarna, non running, wanted to trade it in. Told me he hadn’t had it that long, got it hot running it with a dull chain, and stuck the ring. He had bought an aftermarket piston and ring, and put it in. Said the saw fired right up, and ran great for about 30 seconds before it quit and wouldn’t restart. He was done with it. I pulled the muffler and saw a severe score line, gave him a little trade value, and he bought a good used Shindaiwa 488 I had.
Finally got around to tearing the 450 down to see what had happened. Didn’t expect what I found for sure. The ring gap pin on the piston was not pressed in all the way, wasn’t much, but enough to catch a nail on. I haven’t seen that before, and Honestly not sure I would have noticed it either if I wasn’t looking for the problem. It sure gouged a nice deep rut in the cylinder wall. Sorry for the crappy pics, couldn’t get a good light on it.
