Guy brought in a 450 husqvarna, non running, wanted to trade it in. Told me he hadn’t had it that long, got it hot running it with a dull chain, and stuck the ring. He had bought an aftermarket piston and ring, and put it in. Said the saw fired right up, and ran great for about 30 seconds before it quit and wouldn’t restart. He was done with it. I pulled the muffler and saw a severe score line, gave him a little trade value, and he bought a good used Shindaiwa 488 I had.

Finally got around to tearing the 450 down to see what had happened. Didn’t expect what I found for sure. The ring gap pin on the piston was not pressed in all the way, wasn’t much, but enough to catch a nail on. I haven’t seen that before, and Honestly not sure I would have noticed it either if I wasn’t looking for the problem. It sure gouged a nice deep rut in the cylinder wall. Sorry for the crappy pics, couldn’t get a good light on it.

Nothing surprises me anymore. When it comes to AM parts.

The amount of extra time it takes to insure that they “might” work makes them a total avoid for me.
Exactly where I am Al. Customer equipment it's a no brainers to go OEM so I do not worry and they do not pay my shop rate to fix cheap parts. On my own equipment I find it's not normally worth my time to me.

There are exceptions...my 066 needs a case half. I can run AM cases or send a case half to @SCARR52 and wait for shipping, repair, etc. I will use AM case halves there. You have to understand what you are getting into though.
