The Oregon 42" in 3/8" .063 gauge is Item #: PMC 42 HU63
The .404" .063 gauge is 423RNFD009

Thanks

He told me the 3/8", 0.063 gauge was 423RNDD009. The Oregon site lists that number as well.
He stocks most sizes/gauges/pitches of bars up to 28". Most of the loggers in the mountains use 20"-24" bars. We don't have a lot of huge timber that can't be cut by those.

I thought you were having a hard time getting a 404 bar. Looks like thats not the case
No sir, it was finding the chain part number. It was saying it was not a good number.

The owner of the company called me back this afternoon. Come to find out the reason his employee was having a hard time finding the chain was because they use a wholesaler for Oregon (RBI or something). Most of the big chain loops aren't "In stock" since they spin them to order. With that said, we were using the right number it just wasn't coming up "In Stock".

I told him to get me a 42", 3/8" pitch, 0.063 gauge bar and three loops of skip chisel chain. I didn't see the need in changing pitches just for a few times a year. I have to help a buddy out on a big oak when it cools off, so I will use it then as well. I just won't have to cut from both sides!

I want to thank everyone here that responded. That is what makes this site great.

Yes, more clearance for chips. Often on long bars skip is faster because it has more room between cutters to evacuate the chips so more cutters are actually in contact with the wood and not held back by the chips from the previous cutter.
Agreed/Understood!
Muh 60cc saw flies in soft pine with 3/8 skip 8p. Sucks with 24 full comp.

Would you say chip load still applies when using a mill setup in 3/8 0.063 40"?
Would you say full comp is smoother on the mill?
I have no clue, please step in here.

My bar is a 40 GB HN 0.063 404 but came with a 3/8 loop.
I'd like to stay with 3/8 full comp for the easy of sharpening on the mill with 2in1.

I have run my 42" 3/8 063 with some full comp. It pulled it just fine through a big Russian Elm. The base wasn't 78" though. I think it was 50-54".

That's good info. Good stuff in a few of these new chain threads. I hope to learn quick and avoid meltdowns. Going to run 90cc to start and go to 110-120 after the learning curve. A short milling pipe will be on the list now. I want the saw to run well down low. This will be my first adventures into pulling 100+ dl. Home made bar feed oiler is a must now. I didn't like any of the commercial offerings. All seem to be drip feed. I want tip feed internally to the sprocket or roller. Seems a better bet to oil the most stressed part well. Won't be running a 395 so the oiler needs help.
