Old homelite ez help

Starting to break down and clean up my uncles 1969ish homelite ez chainsaw. I’m positive it needs a carb cleaning/replacement, new fuel line, fuel and air filter. When I pulled the muffler the piston doesn’t look great imo but I’ve never had a saw apart. Is this worth fooling with to make it run or should I just clean it for a display piece? Any help on the carb, lines and filters are much appreciated.

Other than carbon and oil deposits looks promising to me. I would pressure test it to verify crank seals are good and seal in rotation. Be sure the oil pick up isn't black gum. Carb kits, nos air filters, and coils still can be had on sites. Echo fuel line as it can be 3x5, 6, or 7mm OD which is what you will be needing as the.homeys use a large OD line. FYI the only stigma with the blue Super EZ's is the oiler is manual only but I could be wrong. Leon's House of Homelites is a good source of info and parts.

It is manual oiler but that’s fine. It would be sweet to hear it run.

Oh yeah, They are cool little saws. Like these little saws as much as the 10-10 Macs. I got several red, one with a chainbrake, and a blue one.

BTW, The crank seals are fairly reliable after 30-40 years LOL!!.

I see nothing wrong with that slug. You should absolutely get that saw going. They are great runners.

I got rid of my blue one but have a red super ez that is a good parts saw if needed let me know. I’m sure it would run even but it has the typical failed blue coil on it. For some reason the blue coils went bad pretty often.

Clean out the points and set them. Those are dependable if you clean it up right. They sounds cool and like aggressive 3/8" chain.

I’ve never owned anything with points lol.

Lots of local parts stores carry points files to clean them, usually a pretty reliable system

Points engines (2 and 4-stroke) are often easier to start than electronic ignitions. They'll throw spark at lower rpms.

You can clean the points with the wife's nail-sander thing (whatever that's called) or (preferred) some folded-over fine sandpaper (like 600 or 1000 grit).

I've done the same spruce-up you're describing on several old Homies. They're easy and fun.

My blue ez with a green handle had 2 rubber lines with basically a piece of metal break line between them. I bought some grey rubber fuel lint that supposed to be a direct replacement for homelite line. Same od and I’d.

Echo line and some rubber grommets is all you need most times.

I made many fuel lines from car plastic vacuum lines 1/8" or a bit bigger and my fuel line stock. If it seals up and don't leak I'm happy. Those old girls don't have big carbs so you don't need big fuel lines. 3x5 mm works just fine or bigger if it suits your needs.

I passed on a rebuilt minty one two years ago. $35 not running and missing it's bar, chain and clutch cover. Guy said it was dealer rebuilt and mostly sat for twenty some years. He straight gassesed it once.

I ran one for a summer in the 1980's.
They had many colors on the Homies.
