I finally have a nice enough mower that it has a pressurized oil system. As such, I need to change the oil soon. Curious what you more experienced users have to say about filter options.

The OEM Briggs filter is 695396. Ranges from $10 online to $18 at the dealer. I see these aftermarket units are $4

A value if they are comparable in quality to OEM. Not worth the savings if they don't provide sufficient filtration.

I am generally a believer of using OEM parts - filters are no different. I do use WIX filters occasionally and feel they are a high(er) quality alternative to OEM.

Anyhow, thoughts and feedback appreciated. I am running Rotella T6 If anyone is interested in making this an oil thread :)

I tried a aftermarket filter once on my twin kohler. It didnt seal right against mount and had to be over-tightened IMO to make the seal stop leaking. Have no clue if the filtration inside was different or not.

OEM was $9 for me local and aftermarket was $4. Wasnt worth the savings for the crappy seal fit for me.

Here is what I like for what it is worth. Wix or Napa Gold are the same, PureOne (their high end one). Look on Fleet filters web site, I have used them several times and seems to be priced lower than most. Cheap filters usually have cheap by-pass and less filtration.

I've used the stens brand with no issues. The Briggs and Kohler share the same filter. There is a long and short versions and I've been using the long. They are 10 micron rated which is equivalent to Oem. If it's under warranty use Oem till it expires.

I spent a few minutes researching your suggestions.

I can get a 4 - pack of Briggs OEM filers for $40 shipped from eBay.

The Wix/Napa Gold are $6.61 each from Fleet Filter (plus Shipping).

Joey, the Stens filter for my machine is the short version, and it shows 28 micron filtration. The Wix filter publishes 32 micron.

Mine was the short version. Long is a option on it too. But always used the short. Dont know why I do though.

Because on my SUV and 4x4 truck list to use short versions of their filters, but I know the long versions and I use long for the vehicles.

I may have my microns confused with the hydraulic filters.

Josh, I dont have any current links for you but I did alot of reading on filter design before I settled on the Wix Napa Gold filters.

I run them in everything including my Suzuki Eiger.

I use a Motorcraft Fl-910s on my Kawasaki. It's longer than the OEM filter. A FL-400s is a longer version than the FL-910s if you have the clearence for it to fit. These should fit Briggs and Kohler engines.
