Autel makes a bypass cable that works with some of theirs.

You only need the secure gateway if you want to do bi directional test, clear OE codes, or do proxi alignment on 2018 and up Chrysler products. You will be hard pressed to be able to program tpms sensors on a $100 scan tool. I like the autel or topdon code readers. They will do things other brands won't for the same price.

Gateway access for the home gamer is not cost effective. I pay about $150 a month for SGW access for work. You need it for Chrysler, GM, Ford, Nissan, are the ones that I've run into this far.

The Chrysler bypass cable is a good choice for full control on Chrysler products. I wish all the manufacturers would do something like that. But then we are back to obd1 and needing 25 different connectors to service vehicles!

Sounds like this SGW is not something to get all to concerned about, at least initially. IF a scanner tool hits up against a limitation, then buy the bypass cable, right?

Right! SGW is to keep people from hacking your vehicle going down the road. With everything wifi enabled imagine driving down the road and a hacker takes control of your electric power steering module. Sees you travel over a bridge and decides you need to check the river conditions. They can steer your vehicle like a kid with a new RC car on Christmas morning!

Thanks. I'm going to put the Topdon AL500B Scanner back in my wishlist, and make a decision in a day or so. This Ram Truck has been working perfectly since I picked it up, but the 34 day nightmare has got me thinking of being more proactive in doing garage diagnostics before going back to the dealership.

Ordered the Topdon al500b. Walmart had it at $65. Hopefully it will perform to a satisfactory level, else I'll get the Gateway Access cable.

For that price if you don't like it you can get another one. That's one meal at a sit down restaurant.

True, but I haven't eaten at a restaurant in over a decade. I can't believe a Big Mac is over $5 today. I still remember them costing 99c and sometimes it was buy one get one. Them days is long long gone.

I have two different Launch scanners. They suck. You can’t go back one screen most times and it’ll start the vin look up or some other process again. I’m looking at getting an Autel next

I'm still limping along with my Actron CP9682 that I bought when I got out of the business in 2008 and lost access to the shop scan tool. So far it still does everything I need except ABS. Last time I went shopping for a new scan tool, I remember the Innova looked like the best one for the money.
