Nah, I'm old and boring. Had brunch at a local diner with my two grandmothers (very lucky to still have both, one is 86 and the other will be 92 the end of this month) helped Dad put the cover on his boat, cleaned a carburetor for a friends pressure washer, and had supper with family (homemade Spaghetti and Ceasar Salad). Oh, and tried to help a friend (former coworker) diagnose her 7.3L PSD that shut off and left her stuck on the side of the road over text message.

Old pffft.
And did she gwt back on the road?
Hasn't reported back yet, but i believe that she had to have it towed.![]()
The first run is always light. It'll get darker and better flavor (IMO) in the later runs. That's a pretty good haul for 32 gallons. Did you test density with a hydrometer?Good morning men. Apparently we were pretty excited about sharing the syrup.

Lots of little jars and bottles. No idea on exact yield but a quick glance tells me between three and four quarts total. We got ~32 gallons of sap processed. Not nearly what I see a lot of people do but plenty for us and it looks like we'll be doing it next Sunday again. The color is lighter than a lot of the local stuff I've bought and it tastes less intense. That's fine with me.

I was willing to keep going(we had about five gallons of sap left) but she didn't want to handle boiling liquid after dark. I was alright with that.
No. She finished it based(loosely) on temp and experience. Her and her mom make candies and syrups so she has a pretty good idea of what she's looking for. Without a hydrometer we agreed that we wouldn't consider it shelf stable. The first run is always light. It'll get darker and better flavor (IMO) in the later runs.
