I've heard the stories, especially with Pennsoil. It turned to black goo. But the recipe must've changed over the years. The wife bought a 2001 Tahoe new and put 280k on it with nothing but Quaker State 5/30. Motor ran like new still

I rebuilt a Pontiac 301 in auto shop in highschool. Inside was solid black chit from the Pennzoil. Always considered Quaker bottom of the barrel nothing is as bad as Pennzoil in my mind.
