It kind of is.
Supposed to pull the trans out to help access the exhaust pipes. I just go through the right wheel opening. I fully expect to loose some skin and break a knuckle or 2 that way, but it saves me about 4 hours on the whole job.

Sucks when you know the busted knuckle is coming. You can usually see it happening. Anymore I'll stop and throw a glove on most of the time unless it's not feasible then just suck it up.

I've used canola oil with great success. Some don't recommend it as it gums up but I haven't had that issue yet. Maybe add some ATF or a bit of Dawn and water?
