thats how I do it Steve, remove most of the transfer first.
I would like to have longer stones then what this 3 shoe honer has, they are 1.15" long who is to short after my liking
I use a bic pen tube
Cut a slit at the end
Cordless drill
Cleaned dozens of barrels with
Bad transfer.

Morning everyone!
64°/84° with some rain to the North.

Gotta take Karl James in to get clipped this morning.
He looks pretty excited.

I've never honed a saw cylinder. I do hit the whole cylinder with 80 grit emery on the foredom after porting work is done. Gets rid of the J M S marks

I've done a couple after some serious transfer removal. Not to remove transfer, but rather a few in and outs to make sure that the bore is still concentric after all that sanding. If it's not, then it goes into the metal bucket. But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained, it was junk in the first place after all.
Using a fine stone the light scratches don't hurt anything and depending who you ask, have the benefit of not only ring break in but oil retention as well.
