Happen to remember what brand? And yes the windowed Meteor is the schnizzel in the 266.
Lrb. And there's a couple more on eBay. The lrb piston seemed fine, looked good, ran good, but I wanted to try a regular one. Glad I did

Yeah used 5/8 threaded rod heated with a torch to bend.

If you're just going to run around the ranch at home this would be OK. There's no way I can mice words here to sugarcoat what needs said, so with this in mind...in no way shape or form would I recommend that for on Hyway usage. One good pot hole and your axle will be gone. Threaded rod is not heat treated and is very soft in comparison to U-bolts specifically made for the job at hand. My best recommendation to you would be to get the proper U-bolts from the parts store and replace them. Would really hate to see you get in some sort of accident because I didn't say anything. Hope you understand I'm not just trying to be a dick here.

How much of a pop up (height) you cut on those 268 pistons?

Since Dave was putting them in a plethora of saws it was decided to just cut them at standard 372 piston height. Dave sent one along for an example.

That said if doing a one off, squish can be measured and the cut adjusted to reflect the new squish target measurement desired.

Looking at notes, I cut a 10mm wide band .055" on the 268 slab pistons and just as deep on the 272's but an 11mm wide band.
