What is chain speed on a 7 and 8 pin. Just curious how much difference.

8÷7= 1.143, so 14.3% faster chain speed.
7÷8= .875, so your saw needs to hold 87.5% of the rpm with the 8 tooth to be faster than with a 7.

my 036 loses about 2000 rpm between a 7 and a 8 pin with the 24 inch bar Sunday it was at 9000 most of the time

But unless you run extremely high rakers such as jackass jmssaws does your not gonna be at 12000 in a cut all the time

Here is a 50mm Mahle. Looks to be OK, no scoring, galling or aluminum transfer. No piston though, but I am thinking that a 266 or 268 should be just fine. I like the Meteor myself.
It's on my tool bag, so I don't forget it.
