Just a seat of the pants.
The 08 5.3 Sierra with 80,000 doesn't have what the 04 Suburban 5.3 has with 190,000
I know there's a lot of love here for an old school carbureted sbc, and I'm also a fan, but when was the last time you guys saw one that went 3-400k miles without a rebuild? If the oil is changed every 5k miles on these vortec (or whatever they're called since 98 or 99) they'll outlast 2 or 3 bodies. Imo, they'll damn near go forever with simple maintenance. 350's needed a cam every 60k
427 4 speed!
It's fun to think about....
Sorry. I know it was fun, but any sort of current efi is better than a quadrajunk.
6.0 's probably aren't everywhere, but maybe you could find one. 5.3's though are plentiful. You're used to the 6.0 only hitting on 7 anyway. Look into what Joe mentioned earlier about a 5.3 conversion.
The toy vs driver thing...They are very hit miss, on "feel". Also believe the suburban have less tq management than the pickup, so that makes a big difference in performance.
Muh hewo....
The 95+ truck small blocks seemed to have good longevity. I have tore plenty down, and very little ring Ridge after 150k+ miles.
The old ones showed a Ridge well before 100k if they were still running lol
Have seen numerous 300k+ 4.8,5.3,6.0
If it is going to be a toy, go for it. If you want to use it.... No

Griswold be up on his chevy stuffs.OK. I was thinking the variable displacement GM started in '07 5.3's
Neither have traction control. I believe the Sub has 3.55 and the Sierra def has 3.73
Dang. I figured $6-800. Probably find a 5.3 for $400.I was looking around a bit and found a few 6.0's with around 120-150k miles asking 1,300 to 1,900.
Save the 427 for a older more deserving truck, maybe a 69 or 70.The simplest thing to do is drop in another 6.0 and be down the road. It's my work/farm tuck. I really don't have anything invested in it yet so it's worth fixing.
That motor had a tap eight years ago...(that's when I started) and who knows how long before that.

If you're up for a real challenge (and numerous ulcers from OD'ing on headache medicine), there's a 6.5 turbo with 70k on it in my backyard. Your's for the asking.

I would consider pulling a 366 or 427 from a old school bus.![]()

I got a sm465 ssetting in the shop now?

Agree 100%.
Motors are less expensive here. I can buy a complete (what's left of it) '00 2500 reg cab long box for $2-3k.
Also, I'd wager a guess that your jasper trans is possibly the best upgrade that truck could have. 4L80's aren't gm's strong suit. My 93 slipped at 2.5 years old. My 95 dually had the trans gone through twice. Not a fan
When ya going to be showing some catfish pics?I was going to say earlier, the bodies and frames here usually last twice as long as what you mentioned and people usually go through two motors and trannys because of the heat. just my guess anyway, in order to reach 300-400k
