Well, I have a lower sitting in my safe that I haven't built cause I've been looking for a upper.

I believe I'll be getting a new upper for Bambi killing on Monday. My buddy at the gun shop is getting a 450 Bushmaster complete upper in on Monday, I called dibs on it.....

From the research I've done and the hunting restrictions I'm under, it looks like that's the ticket for me and the ranges that I'm wanting to work with.

For now I'll throw on my USO scope that's sitting in the safe until I can talk to Leupold to get something better on.

Does the straight wall cartridge rule mean you can't use a .22 hornet but you can use an H&H 700 Nitro Express or do they put velocity and energy restrictions on as well?

It's Michigan. There are even restrictions on restrictions

I ask because when I was a young guy, the county I lived in had a reg where you couldn't use a rifle over .275 caliber. So, the old 32-20 was considered a dangerous weapon but the .264 Winchester was OK. Typical dumb chit gov't.

Nope, you can't use .22 cal here anywhere. Michigan has three hunting zones. I'm in the zone where for years it was shotgun only during firearm season. A few years ago they changed it so that you could use a rifle.

BUT; it's gotta be a straight walled case 35 cal or larger. With a minimum case length of 1.16" and a maximum case length of 1.8".

Against Kevins advice I went and ordered a 450 Bushmaster upper for a AR. I've got a lower in the safe with no upper on it so it made sense. I love the AR platform and am proficient with it. I bought this one for 200-300 yards. At those ranges it can be hard to get a accurate range.
I like having the option to be able to spot my shot if I get a miss and rapidly re-engage. Something you can't do with a Muzzle Loader
