I am mostly curious what the Fire Academy involves.

Our department requires that everyone needs to be fire and EMT certified.

They made a exception for my wife with her experience, she will only run medical calls and assist patients and department personnel on fire calls. She will not need to go through fire academy.
I will be worried about taking the MFR and EMT class, but she will be there for me and help me with those. I am curious what the Fire Academy has to entail.
I'd guess you would have some classroom stuff, learn how to pack hose, run a pump truck, advance a hose line, search a burning building stuff like that. Probably do a bunch of live fire training as well.

It ain't bad if you're not claustrophobic.

Round here it seem like these firemen got a attitude like everybody should bow to them or somthin,it would be a boxing match if I joined up. I'm glad there around just don't need the....look at me I'm a bmfer..........just sayin

I have heard that before, from what I have seen that doesn't seem to be the case in our area.

There was a bad wreck in front of our house several years back when the culvert washed out and a family was hauling ass down our road and dropped in. My wife was the first on the scene and once the first responders got there they were highly impressed with her and have been bugging her ever since. Everyone there was very professional and had zero attitude, even once everything was cleaned up and we were BSing in our yard.

2 years ago me and my son were in a awful wreck in a loaded semi and a propane truck. (Lisa says the guys still talk about that one and say that was probably the best call that they ever took)
All the guys there were great too.

Most of the guys on our department are good ole farmer boys. Lisa says that I will have zero issues fitting in.

The claustrophobic part aint a issue.

I am worried about the classroom part of it....

I never once applied myself in school. I always assumed that I knew what I was going to do and I didn't need skooooling for that. (Huge regret)
I am really worried about the class room aspect of it......

There's good and bad in all thing. The water company I work for covers 23 communities so I see a lot.

I deal with the aftermath of fire departments fixing everything. It doesn't seem to matter what department or town they all blow up lines...

I've fixed hydrants they've run over with the fire tuck, hydrants they "opened" turning it the wrong direction and tons of nozzles that they cross threaded.

I'm thankful for them and glad guy volunteer! When I was 9 I barely lived through a house fire on Christmas morning at 3: am. My Mom&dad got all 5 kids out and the fire department was there in minutes! The whole 2nd floor was gone and all of us kids bedrooms were up there.
