Wood is standard here for residential ,the new building products i do not know if i would call them wood though ,my lap siding is cement board stuff and most of the plywood is chips of wood held together with glue ,even the stone on my foundation and columns on front porch is fake stone ,not my preferred choice of materials ,but it is whats available these days . When i lived in new england as a kid ,there were some stone homes there ,do not see many out in the north west though .We do not even have basements or cellars here like we did back east .Stone..brick ..fake stone ......etc , is the norm in the ~UK. You live in a wood house in the UK and its looked upon as unusual to say the least.
