Talked to my residential now
Used to do production 40+ year.
Timber faller/climber friend today
He threw a rope in a 60-70 foot 3+ diameter ash last week
It was in a low hollow
Next to a house
As he was dragging the rope to winch
Some tension away from the house.
The rope went slack
And he was able to run out from underneath it.
Just pulling by hand brought that dead ash down.
Woke him up he said lol
Never saw anything like it.
He cut several recently that broke like a gunshot 9ft or so up
As they were falling
That's happened to me several time's here.
He refused another climbing job on a big ash
Just too dangerous
I only drop the one's i can get away from.
He work's close quarters and next to home's buildings etc.
No thanks I'll cut in the woods lol

Yep they gotta come down while there's a little life left in them to be safe.

Hard hat is mandatory for me if they're completely dead. They're brittle as fúck....

In the 5 year's since i moved here
I've cut over a 100 but many of the large one's
Rotted all the way through
Punky inside.
I tell guy's not to fool with them
