Little food for thought...
Mind you folks we already do depot level maintenance btwn five squadrons on C-5 Galaxies, C-17 GlobeMasters, C-130 Hercules, F-15 Strike Eagles, and EC-8 JSTARS. Some good news for Robins AFB in mid-Ga where I work C-17 GlobeMaster III avionics/flight controls. I had heard of this possibly coming to fruition about a year ago talking with some buddies of mine that work NADEP and NARF in NC...seems Robins here will get all the Navy and Marine Corps C-130 Hercules depot level maintenance work by the year 2020 and will be the sole provider of same maintenance for the entire Department of Defense C-130 Hercules active and reserve fleet, including the 130's in the Coast Guard fleet, by 2021. We already work several Coast Guard birds throughout the year but we'll get them all here by 2021. The Air Force will consolidate all it's C-130 depot level maintenance that is currently being done out in Ogden, UT as well, to be brought here. They're talking hiring numbers btwn 400-500 aircraft mechanics (airframes/sheetmetal/powerplants/electricians/avionics/hydraulics/etc), to fulfill these positions, and the support positions that will be necessary as well, by 2020. Gonna be a helluva injection of jobs, growth here no doubt.
Bring them new jobs on...the more the merrier!
