Prairie dogs live in groups in fields. They're related to ground hogs, also called wood chucks. Ground hogs are about 3 times the size of a prairie dog, and live alone or in single families. The one @GCJenks204 got is a ground hogThey may be same just location different.
Ours burrow in the ground under machinery or building foundations not out in timber.
When I worked out in SD they called em rock chucks but looks the same.
I don't know what the proper name for them is I guess.
