It truly is sad.

When my grandpa started this farm in the 50's it was considered huge. Through the years we grew and expanded.

Today the capital and red tape it takes to even be able to expand is rediculus.

It is a truly sad state of affairs.
That right there is way I never took over Dads / Grandpas farm. He never got real big, and he always paid cash for everything.
He made a good living and still is by renting and doing a little crop farming. For me to come in and buy the place now at my age I would never get it paid off and die in debt.

The way it is now He is better off to just keep what land he's got left for now. Then just sell it off to the surrounding farmers.

He should have sold a few years back. At least around here land is dropping. What used to go for $12,000 a acre is now going for $8000-9000

I know I won't be able to farm forever. I love my job and what I do. I have had offers that would be a substantial increase from what I'm doing, but I'd still be in the AG industry.

When the time does come, the thing I am going to miss the most is being able to take my kids with me and have them tag along.
My son loves working with me when he's not in school. It's going to really suck not having him with me.

I was my grandpa's right hand man. When my Grandpa was young he was left between 500 and 600 acres being only child. Now we have 40 acres left in the family name.I drive by and have visions of the past working in the fields and just what it used to be like. Now there is a trailer park and subdivision:frown:Nobody gave a chit about leaving anything in the family name.Iam sure my great grandpa had visions for future generations but things didn't work out that way.

When the oil and gas industry hit my area it really helped save a few farms that probably would have went under by now. Around me if a guy sells out everything gets subdivided.

Pfft, see, you don't have a real job:D
Yeah. Drive 38 miles to get there first.

Met with a town rep on the street...let me tell you when you directional bore into a 8" PVC water main...it's a mess. Looks like we are loading asphalt Friday in the rain.

Now push some paper out the email system..and back into the field. Cutting trees off of power lines this afternoon for a grand finale. Ross...we are de-energizing them first... 3ph power service is nothing to play with.

Yes it does make a mess. Some poor bastard worked hard to treat and pump that water, and some more poor bastards are going to have to work even harder to fix it. [emoji2]
