Finger jointed studs have been around since the 1980's. They can be used for structural framing.

I know builders who only use finger jointed lumber, for building entire homes. Simply because of how straight they are, less prone to twist, bowing, warping, etc.

Last handful of years, a lot of builders have been switching to LVL glulam studs. They are hella stout, almost no bounce when nailing to them.

im just thinking about the glue out in the weather
when i worked at manufactured housing place and i built the floors we used alot of lvl as band boards and for alot of commercial applications
schools and airport terminal we did

We also got into microwave edge gluing a couple of years before they sold the plant and closed it

A big table with a teflon bed and pneumatic top press and side and end presses

You made S4S, ran it across a special edge glued, lined them up in the press and hit the go button and the top came down and the sides and end clamps came in and squared it all up and then it did a final tightening and the microwave kicked in and cooked the glue

You had a sheet of pretty strong wood you could rip to whatever dimension to run through the molder

That thing was temperamental as all hell and was constantly needing to be tended too

Some *dipstick dropped a tree took out a power line at 8pm last night for Halloween i guess
I got home from work at 2am
I hurt my knee last spring and couldn't lift this 17 year old generator back into the building so i left it out all summer
Started first pull and ran all day
Power just came back on.

not much change on today's plan, 238's. With luck I might get one started.
The one I plan to use frequently got new crank bearings, and as an experiment I put in one pto bearing originally used on the Stihl 020, SKF 394764, I had four of them.
It has the same dimensions as Husqvarna's F A G 543301
