No one wants to pay for tyres, so tyre workers ergo get *s-word wages and put that enthusiasm into the job.
This I get, nobody wants to pay for tires/tyres and especially since shops have started some of their ridiculous policies, although legal liability is possibly just as much a driving force as profit/greed
Most of the shops up here won't "mix" tires/tyres on the same axle; translation.... if you have a tire/tyre that they deem as non-repairable or worn out, and, it isn't a brand or style they sell, they will refuse to sell you just one tire/tyre, even if they have the exact same size in another style or brand, because it is UNSAFE to "mix" tires/tyres on the same axle, so they insist you buy 2 new tires/tyres
They pull the same crap on 4WD/AWD vehicles, they won't sell you 1 or 2 tires/tyres that are different from the rest of the tires/tyres on the vehicle because it is UNSAFE even if they are all the same size
You get hosed that way just once and I guarantee you will look at tire shops differently
The problem is exponentially worse up here twice a year during "changeover season", the month following the first snow when EVERYONE wants their winter tires/tyres changed over for the season and then the 2 weeks before May 1st, when studded tires/tyres have to be off the vehicle
They started charging an extra $10-20 per wheel some years back if you have TPS sensors because.....
Because they can
A seasonal changeover went from $60-70 to $100-120, and that's twice a year
I beat the system by buying winter rims for all my vehicles and changing them myself
I save a butt load of $$$ plus the wear and tear on the tires/tyres and rims from the seasonal temp workers they have to employ to get through the crunch
And it also stops the "oh, we can't put the tires/tyres we took off last October back on your car this May because they are 1/64th inch past the minimum tread depth in this one place we found with a magnifying glass so you need 4 new tires/tyres
What are you going to do when your car is on the lift, they already pulled your studded winter tires/tyres, and you have 4 bare rims staring at you
Also your chances of this shenanigan are probably 200% higher if you were born with lady bits
Tire/Tyre rant off...
