We have that trouble too - I’ve been on 9 years now. Our town is a “bedroom town” for those that work in the surrounding cities (Winona, Rochester) and a farm town. No room for town to expand, and the younger generation that moves in hasn’t been stepping up to fill the vacancies we have. The fire dept does OK, but our volunteer Ambulance suffers greatly - older staff, not fully staffed.. we’re a proud bunch here in Altura, first volunteer ambulance service established in the state of MN back when, and we don’t want to lose it. But all the surrounding services are losing members and not gaining replacements as well. One local ambulance service had 2 ambulances running full time about 2 years ago - they just when belly-up and now are covered by another neighboring town, taxing that volunteer service even more… it’s getting real bad.Talked to a group of volunteer firefighters who came here to put out a fire recently, that said they were getting old, and having trouble getting younger help. It's good to see you stepping up.
That's crazy. It was in the upper 70s here yesterday.
