What an afternoon: Red Flag warning as stated earlier today - pager goes off at 4:14pm of a cornfield on fire and it’s heading towards the woods.. Got to the station and geared up to fight a wild fire - then a second page comes through with more information that a tractor is also engulfed… switch out gear and head ti the scene.. Myself and a younger member of the dept focused on the tractor while the rest of our dept and a neighboring dept focused on the wildfire.. great team effort had it all under control in about 1 1/2-2 hours. Farmer was stalk chopping and a bearing must have failed in the driveshaft causing a “thermal event” and the guy was driving around his field lighting fire wherever he went for a bit before he realized it and got it shut down. Could have been a lot worse though.. Very windy with low humidity today. Another red flag warning issued for tomorrow already.. Anyways, g’night gang.

@redline4 +6 votes or whatever we're up to on a 346 top ended saw.
My oe Randified is my favourite saw, and is way more capable than 46cc would suggest.
Pretty sure @markds2 would go +7 based on his 'bigblock' NE XS one too.
I was angling towards getting a V2 MS261C I had at the time ported, but Kevin @huskihl talked me into getting a NE346XP ported.

I don't regret that decision one little bit and no longer own the MS261C. The XS346 is a little rocket.

Morning/ Evening All. Physical and mental exhaustion have set in, looking forward to going to the office to rest my body and my brain…

Now that MIL knows there is a place to go she’s lost all patience with being in the hospital. Not very good day for her yesterday, lots of confusion driven by her anxiety/excitement.

The 034S is light as hell for a 60cc saw. Will run a 24" 3/8 in stock form.

The 026 is a great light saw....but look for a PRO version if possible.

Or.....the 346XP is another fine choice.
I have a Mofo 036 so that puts the 034 out.

I have a 346xp OE that is in pieces and ready to rebuild with a used 42mm cylinder and piston. I have a bunch of new parts and stuff to put it all back together. It will not be a shelf queen, just a nice work saw. Just the way you like them.
Let me think on it a bit.
I'll text you later if work doesn't go totally sideways.

Thought about that.
I know a guy in NJ that can make a really ripping 024 for you. The lead time might not be appealing though.

That guy can fùck right off.

Good morning fellas. Was supposed to operate some heavy equipment today to help my buddy, but that got canceled until further notice.. 51 now and headed to 81 again they say.

Supposedly it hit 88 here yesterday, which was about 4-5* higher than expected! It was HOT!

Thank you. When my wife and I moved to town, we didn’t know anybody. I joined up about a year later and we got to know quite a few families because of the “brotherhood” so to speak. It been a learning experience for sure - I grew up just outside a city with a full time dept on hand, so I took it for granted until I learned what was needed in a rural town like this. Lots of laughs and memories because of the decision to join - no regrets!

Talked to a group of volunteer firefighters who came here to put out a fire recently, that said they were getting old, and having trouble getting younger help. It's good to see you stepping up.

That's crazy. It was in the upper 70s here yesterday.

We have that trouble too - I’ve been on 9 years now. Our town is a “bedroom town” for those that work in the surrounding cities (Winona, Rochester) and a farm town. No room for town to expand, and the younger generation that moves in hasn’t been stepping up to fill the vacancies we have. The fire dept does OK, but our volunteer Ambulance suffers greatly - older staff, not fully staffed.. we’re a proud bunch here in Altura, first volunteer ambulance service established in the state of MN back when, and we don’t want to lose it. But all the surrounding services are losing members and not gaining replacements as well. One local ambulance service had 2 ambulances running full time about 2 years ago - they just when belly-up and now are covered by another neighboring town, taxing that volunteer service even more… it’s getting real bad.
