Settled it then.
I'll never buy a GM product.
Probably never buy another vehicle made after 1996 TBH.
Automotive engineers that dreamed that *s-wordt up shouldnt be given praise. They should be given "country-style arse BEATINGS", and NEVER let back into the industry.
There have always been plenty of people who either lacked the specific skills, or the desire to repair their own vehicle.
Thats why people like you who have both of those qualities have a career.
There was absolutely no need for them to make things that Got-Damn hard for you!
John DeLorean admitted that GM lagged well behind Ford and just copied them for years.
Meh, I honestly wish I liked GM but there are just too many reasons not to. The 11 billion dollar net loss the government took on them with your money should be enough to piss most people off. But if that isn't enough, they took that money, closed American factories and invested in China, among other places. Not that Ford and Chrysler haven't invested in China, but GM is 5 times as big as Ford in China despite being similar in size overall.

Ford is also privately owned (in part) so there is a least some interest in preserving the reputation of the company, unlike GM who gutted their own makes, completely abandoned any brand identities and become a shameless slut for their shareholders.

And killed at least 124 people over a 57 cent part as they admitted to in their court settlement.

They all pinch pennies... people are free to buy whatever they want/need/works for them. But I won't buy a GM. There's other American made choices for me.

Also, the "Real People, Not Actors" Chevy commercials could be the focus of a case study on bad marketing.

Okay I'm done now 🤣

GM products are cost engineered to the penny for manufacturing. Everything else is secondary. Including lives.

I did a lot of those recalls.
Have yet to hear of anyone who actually had the issue.
But I can also confirm thr vast majority of people who had those vehicles were the type who had 2 keys, 5 lanyards, 4 name tag trinkets, a flashlight and 2 Swiss army knives hanging on their key ring.
It was more of a weight/inertia issue than anything.
When the customer got their vehicle back they were given the car key with the remote fob on its own ring.
Not saying GM hasn't or doesn't do some stupid shìt, but that one was blown way out of proportion by the media.

That's what I read too. It was the weight of the giant key rings in the ignition that caused it to turn off. The media hype wasn't because of the defect. It was because GM knew about the defect, knew about the danger, and didn't fix it. And accident investigators pinned it on the ignition. That's why GM had to settle in court for millions.

I have nothing but respect for the good men and women working every day on GM products. They have nothing to do with what caused this. But the bean counters who chose profit over lives lost my business.

I'm off my high horse. Enough said.

I still get recall papers for the Monte
Never worried about it because I only had one single key in the ignition
The button to release the trunk and unlock doors would be in my pocket
These companies are all bad on taking responsibility for their junk

I had several gm vehicles with those recalls I never took them in because I never had any issues.
Now my friend totalled 2 Toyota sienna vans because the key immobilizer which would randomly shut the vehicle off
While driving I'm not sure which year models this was
The first time it happened on the interstate she was hit from behind and didn't realize what caused the van to shut off
It was only a few months old.
The second time her husband was driving the replacement van about a year later and it shut off on a gravel road and he couldn't keep control and hit a rock.
They actually bought have another sienna but no issues yet
She has probably 25 keys and fobs and trinkets on a massive key ring I'm sure that led to her issues but she never changed it.

We get recall notices on my wifes last vehicle which we traded in in 2020 and was then wrecked on a test drive by one of our wash peoples senile mom.
