I had a liver biopsy several years ago (now you know why I quit drinking) and the sensation of the needle passing through the gut bag was an unforgettable experience.
I came close to passing out when my wife was having her issues and they did a bone biopsy.
They made a small cut in her leg and then using this crazy looking spring loaded center punch with a hollow tube on the end looking thing proceeded to "tap it with a small mallet" against her femur. I started to get warm and fuzzy and one of the nurses took me out of the room. First time something like that ever happened to me.
My wife said it was pretty awful as they "can't numb bone"..
