Legally as long as the owner is present, it's OK.
But... he left it unsecured and unattended.
That's a no no.
Plus, for all he knows I could be a convicted felon, and by me driving his truck into the shop could in theory land me in hot water.

My opinion it is not right to leave a firearm and not have it secured. That truck was left overnight in our parking lot, anyone could have peeked in the windows and saw it.
He's an irresponsible moron whom the anti gun people like to use as an example of all firearm owners and claim that they should be banned.

Sometimes I wonder that myself, but I see this too often. People are just careless.
I see wads of cash and jewelry in plain sight in consoles a the time.
I once found $500 that had fallen from a console when I removed a seat for wiring repair.
Customer just said, huh, I had wondered what I did with that...
I keep track of my $$. I work too fuggin hard to earn it.
