If anyone wonders how the variable cam timing works,
The solenoid varies oil through here
Into the 1st cam journal, here
And from there into the camshaft itself which seals to the cap with 2 Vinton seals.
From there it's out the front of the cam into the actuator.
The actuators have an internal mechanical lock to prevent them from rattling on start up.
