Evening all. Some 16 pages behind, didya miss me? Anything I missed that I should go back and read all that nonsense?

Morning / evening all. Getting into the slacker on vacation mode. Enjoying sleeping in and drinking coffee before doing anything. Having fun with the boat, going to throw an inflatable behind it for the first time tonight and see if we can make the kids scream for mercy.
So how many of the missed pages did you actually read? Looks like a few . . .

Do you get ticks up there by the north pole Michael?
I don't remember getting any on me while I was up there and I lived in the bush for about 5 months.the mosquitoes and flies probably kill them all lol the mosquitoes get half as big as helicopters I kept waiting to hit one head on and go down.

I followed orders and did them all, or at least most, May have accidentally missed a couple but got the gist. No one is evacuated for fires but some are close. No one died or got arrested (that we know of). Nic’s knew w is still bothering him and his boss is a *b-word.

Tim got hitched and had some incredible brisket, Some other good steaks and eats around. Some of my best vegan friends hang out here for sure…

Morning Larry

No, ticks are not a problem in this part of Alaska

I am not sure about the panhandle area though

So in a wildlife related theme, a knocking like a woodpecker woke me and the dog up this morning so I threw on some clothes and went out the back door to see WTH was going on

A Chukar Partridge was sitting on the downspout extension of a gutter pecking on the aluminum and making a hell of a racket

I popped out the gate and it froze but didn't flush

Another was hunkered down in the street

I call them Dodo Birds because they seem soooooo dumb

Had a Volvo S60 as my rental on the coast. I’m a guy that usually loves all the tech and gadgets, this was too much. Everything was accessed through a touch screen, not sure i understood half of what it could do for me.
My daughter and SIL got a Tesla as a rental car in LA and had to sit in the parking lot and bring up YouTube videos to figure out how to make the damned thing work

They hated that thing and said they would never ever own one

The first hybrid I got as a rental car in Honolulu threw me for a curve

I kept hitting the POWER button and nothing happened except all the dash lights came on and the green READY light came on, the engine never started

I went to the counter and told them the car wouldn't start and they had a good laugh at my expense

It was very unnerving to have the engine suddenly shut off in traffic

The No See Ums and White Socks were my worst nightmare

I had to pull all the window screens in the house, toss the screening, and substitute no see um netting from an outdoor equipment repair store to keep the little bastards out of the house

I am used to push to start, have had versions of that in the family since 2012 or so. This was a knob on the console, what through me was turning it off was the same knob in the same direction. On/off should be opposite directions… the gear shift on the console was a little weird, but the strangest thing was that Park was not a function of the shift, it was a button beside the shifter.

Other than the complicated controls it was a fun car to drive.

Took so many pictures on the coast, I won’t share them all but some of the most incredible sights as usual juxtaposed with some of the saddest.
There is a strip of East Hastings in Vancouver that is the epicentre of the homeless and drug crisis in our country. Drove through the area a few few times and it just breaks your heart to see all that human capital just destroyed. “Folded” zombies everywhere you looked.

On the brighter side:

When we picked up the car from being shipped back from Hawaii to Tacoma and drove back to Alaska in 2022, we stopped in a few places in BC to visit friends

I remember we crossed east of Vancouver and drove over whichever bridge it was and could see Burnaby where our friend lived and I was amazed at the skyline, thinking I was seeing Vancouver

Then our friend took us over the rise where we could actually see Vancouver and I was speechless

I think I will stick with all 3 blocks of "downtown" Palmer Alaska

The new car is also a "push the PARK button" deal at the base of the shifter

It took some getting used to

I can get lost in the on screen menus but luckily 99% of the stuff in there, other than music, navigation, climate control, is not stuff I need to fiddle with on the fly

All I could manage with the climate control was changing the speed of the fan. Temp adjustment, or anything else I would have needed Tom stop and fiddle more than I was willing too.

Tried to get the moonroof and shade open and it took 3 days to find the right finger motion to make it happen. Pushing of different buttons just partially opened the shade and tilted the glass. Had to use a finger swipe across the button instead of pushing it.
