Do you have to spray your apple trees?
No, however the yield could be increased if they were. Always loose some to birds, worms and the low hanging ones to deer. So, when I pick, if a bad apple is found I just toss it on the ground and before I can get to the house, I can hear the deer munching on them. No chemicals are used here in the veggie gardens etc., which kinda is the point, besides being much tastier than store bought.

I use a natural spray on my Gala tree. I'll let you know if it works this fall.

Morning folks. Rains overnight and more expected throughout the day.

Apple trees bloomed a couple of weeks ago here. Loaded with flowers again.

We've been able to pick rhubarb for a couple of weeks as well. Tasty stuff early in the year.

This variety tastes good to within a couple inches of the leaf, and the stalks get to be way wider that the only red stuffs.
So far we've had it in bread, muffins, cooked down for a drizzle sauce (for ice cream and pancakes) and a rhubarb crisp.

I've been curious about spraying my apple trees with Neem Oil to reduce the worm damage. I have 5 mature macintosh trees and most of the apples are pretty sad by the time they are ready to pick. What product are you using, Randy?
This stuff here.....

Well, I called it, trying to get pictures of a mom and calves

And this guy was "a naturalist and bear guide" who lived in Homer for decades

Sad

I didn't copy the whole story but at least the guy's son is asking the wildlife troopers NOT to try and track down and kill the momma moose, saying she was just doing her job

Too often up here people do stupid śhit and stuff happens and an innocent animal gets put down

Homer man killed in moose attack was trying to photograph calves, troopers say

A Homer man who died Sunday after being injured by a cow moose was trying to photograph the moose and two newborn calves, Alaska State Troopers say.

Dale Chorman, 70, was walking with a friend through brush about 100 yards from his home when they were charged just before noon on Sunday, troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel said on Monday. The men were looking for the moose to take photos, he said.

When the men saw the animal, they both turned around and began to run, McDaniel said. The other man turned around and saw Chorman on the ground with the moose standing over him, he said. Troopers on Sunday said the moose charged both men and kicked Chorman. McDaniel on Monday said Chorman was injured during the attack but the state medical examiner will determine his cause of death.

The moose and calves left the area after the attack. Medics declared Chorman dead at the scene, troopers said.

Chorman, a carpenter/builder who also was a naturalist and bear guide, lived in Homer for decades.
