I used to curse the GM starters on automatic trannys where you had to fool with the shim tabs to set the tooth engagement

No. Oil leak at the lower crankcase.
Look 7 or so posts above an you'll see where I had the bottom end split.

The lower crankcase is also the main bearing "cap".
I removed the bearings to clean the lower crankcase





Makes the engines pretty ridged.
Problem with these is the ran out of room to put perimeter bolts at the rear and paired with the exhaust routed right next to it causes degradation of the seals faster than they really should..
This is a 2011, but only 60,000 miles.
