The 460 I have is too old for a new type flywheel. Balance is different. My truck has a mechanical clutch linkage too, and the zf5 is hydraulic.
You must be talking about the 460 MEL from 1958-1968 then, that's a different kettle of fish than the more modern 460 that came in Ford trucks.

No, the early 460 was balanced differently. One is externally balanced, and the other is internally balanced.

I have an 360 mated to a 5 speed with granny gear that I've considered using instead of the 460 as well. I've got 3 of these old Bullnose Fords F350s, so rather than mess with my small block truck, I'll probably build a different truck although.
The 360 in early form was an excellent purpose built truck motor. You'll want to take a look at the oil pan as there were two for the 360 depending on if it was in a two or four wheel drive truck. I seem to recall having to swap out the pan when I installed one in a 1980 F250 4x4. Some fabricating of motor mount perches had to be done as well, otherwise a later distributor from say a 74 or 5 360 will allow you to plug right in to your wiring harness and use the brainbox in the truck. The older alternators also work wonderful with the newer all electronic voltage regulators of the 80's and plug and play as well.

I only had one and put it in an old car, for trucks I always stuck with the FE's, one 390 was put in several trucks as the motors last longer than the body's up here.

Just LS swap it all.

Iron block, aluminum head 6.0.
One of the best v8 engines ever built.

And to completely ruin the internet, I'd take the Ford 460 over the Chevrolet 454 if building off an oem block.
why put a good motor into a less than lack luster truck
thats why i quit messing with the squarebody trucks years ago
