I've heard more and more sealcoat dissenters recently. I guarantee my dad has a textbook in his office all about sealcoating. He knows a good bit about concrete and asphalt.

Common sense would dictate that you would want to add some of those oils back into the asphalt to keep it from getting dry and brittle, plus the sealcoating makes the asphalt look nearly new.

If you have it done, you want coal tar sealer. Longer lasting and more durable than than the more environmentally friendly latex and asphalt emulsions types.

The maintenance guys used that latex stuff at our condo in Hawaii some years back

It didn’t last a year

I don’t know if it was the product, or lack of prep, or what but it was a huge chunk of $$$ down the toilet

OK, so another asphalt related question

The owner of the pavement company told me yesterday NOT to waste money on having it sealcoated every couple of years, DESPITE the fact his company does sealcoating

He says he has never sealcoated any of his own driveways he has built...

He said once you sealcoat you are committed to having to do it every couple of years

Thoughts?

The county I live in waits 1-2 years after fresh blacktop and then chip-seals the surface. They claim another 10 years of life added when they do that.. I personally would not seal coat the blacktop unless it was started to deteriorate.

The good stuff will smell like tar for a couple months after application. Environmentalists will cry but its the best sealer for asphalt.

Funny you say that, I was braced for the paving to smell to high heaven and it had zero odor

I have never run into that before when I was around an asphalt job

IDK

Duke after a hard day of killing

Neighbor woman released 100 tame rabbits 5 year's ago
Duke has worked diligently to maintain population control
He's probably killed and ate hundred's.
This morning my friend jeff duke's owner was cooking breakfast and that neighbor woman
Walked in a put a mangled rabbit on his kitchen and table and told him to finish eating it

Just tip it on its side once a year and drain it out the oil filler neck. Refill, mow.
Thank you Adam.
We have a Swisher-branded trimmer that Bosslady uses because she can't hold a standard stick-style trimmer anymore.
Has a 6 hp BS engine. I service it regularly, even though it doesnt have a drain plug for the oil. (Deviates please post as you like😅)
Just buy a standard molded oil catch basin from your local auto parts store and tip the mfer over onto it.
Doesn't require an engineering degree or complicated maff stuffs.
Might make it easier if your parents arent cousins....(yes, I put that in for Dallas and Jason...)😁

I was just looking at the engine manual which is the standard terrible cartoon style with captions in 15 languages and if I am smart enough to interpret one of the pics correctly you are supposed to dump the oil after 5 hours

Another page has a terrible pic that I interpret as DON'T change the oil

The box has a big "Never need to change oil" blurb on it

Whatever, I will change the oil at 5 hours and yearly after that

Damn sad to say, but some of us know that dumb bish doesnt know Jack chit about how an ecosystem works.
These idjits think they are helping.
Fools should listen and learn from the people who were there first and figured out what the land needed, instead of doing what the interweb tells them to.
Common problem nowadays unfortunately.

Sad to say, but they make these things to be used and thrown away.
I understand that you can afford to do that, as I can.
I believe we should CHOOSE to preserve things if its an option.
I would rather keep something working and spend my money and time on my family and things we WANT to do over wasting time to go buy another expendable POS.

I probably will. Going trout fishing with dad tomorrow.
Took the slacker route Friday and took a vacation day. Spent the day getting Bosslady access to my account at the docs office so she can get my BP meds refilled without me having to talk to them, then we went and looked at a new ride for her.
Stupid Heep is giving a few problems.
Typical Chrysler(Fiat) things.
Guess what we are getting next?
Heres a hint. It WONT be anything the general makes....

Maintaining things is my nod to conservation.
Just can't see how buying the latest and greatest eco safe wizzamibang is better for the planet if my old one is still in serviceable condition.
