Update on the Heep.
Bought a code scanner and hooked that puppy up.
Code B2204 popped up and will not go away.
Wireless control module that reads the chip in the ignition key died.
I could possibly replace it myself, but I'll need the PIN for it that only the dealer can provide, so its getting hauled in.

If you were here I can do that for you.

Probably failed cuz the dude drives it while wearing crocs. And listening to Ac/Dc.

Well yeah.

Boats are so dumb Gary...
Honestly, get you some big wide sit-on roto-mould kayaks to start with. You'll be able to launch them straight off the Skeeter Shack lawn, and assuming you and T don't have upper body rigor mortis, the power plant will always go. Sure, you'll get a damp butt, but they're light, inexpensiveish and easily put back away if the weather changes, which it will.
On the other hand...Cheap, older power boats have very high potential for rot in the timber that hides inside the fibreglass, its almost guaranteed in the transom in fact. Also, despite the inherent reliability of the two stroke design, old 2M outboards do not like long spells between use and can be total a-holes to start on the wrong day.
Additionally, nothing kills a marriage faster than a poor launch or retrieve session. If your ramp (dock?) does not have good floating pontoons and wind protection, then someone is going to get a wet arse and risk the boat blowing over or away from them, if they are lucky enough to be the one who can't back a trailer. Yelling and refusal to participate nearly always follow.
Ease in bro. Nothing beats a great day on the water, but they are few and far between, and a lot of prep goes in to making it as seamless as possible.

Great post, and so spot on in every way. I've owned several boats.

We each got SUP’s for Christmas last year, almost as of T is psycho, I mean can tell the future whatever that’s called, lol.

So what you are saying is buy new? Can I get you to call her and explain???

Intention would be to leave in the water most of the season, would only come out if we were going to be away and I would have non marital help for that…

Not sure if that's what caused Brent's issue Larry. But they do make a 9 vdc powered cigarette adapter plug to keep controller's memory, clock functions, and other items when battery disconnects occur during service work.
I am not sure either, but I work with volatile memory in my industry, and the batteries fail, and the memory dumps. Then I get to replace the battery and reprogram the unit. Sucks for the customer. No reason that battery should discharge in 45 minutes on a vehicle that gets used regularly.

A new boat would minimise the starting and hull integrity issues yes. But $$$
I don't have to deal with winterisation (sp?), but if you have a jetty/pier/wharf as part of the Shack grounds then i guess the "leave it in" is an option. When the season "ends" calendar vs actual weather would always be on my mind i guess.
Fresh water isn't as corrosion inducing as the salt environment i have to deal with, but a hull left in the fresh water would still grow hangers-on that need dealing with i would have thought? @Only the Tony ?

Fuggin chips in everything. Debit cards, car keys, produce, pets. They take this s_word too far. Al because a battery for memory retention dies and you unplug the battery. Wtf? Sorry dude, this frosts my azz!

On another note, the cub fired up today. Will go through the fuel system to make it stay running. Progress has been made. Cause it has no chips! Magneto and that's it.
Magneto is the way to go IMHO.
Throws plenty of spark, has a mechanical advance that works well enough, and doesnt even need a fuggin batt-ry.
Ive got an economy battery on the Allis that I havent even had to charge this year. It starts well enough that it doesnt usually spin more than 2 revolutions.
I just cut the fuel off and walk away.
Let it run the carb dry, and its usually good to go next time.
Dont even have an ignition switch on that ole gal.

Has to come out for winter, no question on that one. In mid May out mid September would be my best guess as to the season right now.

Sucky part of it was I couldve avoided it.
Didn't really need to disconnect the battery cable for a wheel speed sensor, but it was a standard procedure for me to do when anything electrical was being replaced.
Might have been for the best.
I wouldnt want that POS to go toes up somewhere away from home with Bosslady when I'm out of town.
Jeep has been rock solid with no starting/driving issues for almost 10 years now, so I guess its due.
As long as it doesnt start a bad habit, it can stay.

Need to figure out what you what you want out of a boat. I think you are around my age so are we looking for comfort that you will fish and play a bit with? Pontoons will have less water contact if you are going to leave it in the water all the time, but also consider if you are going to be out on a lake with waves and wind. I notice on many of the postings on boats for sale farther north, most people have rolling docks that have a lift for getting the boat out of water. I have no problems with used, just understand that any work that needs to be done you will pay a premium for someone else to do it or you need to learn it yourself.

Yep. Salt or fresh water, you'll still have accumulation on the hull. Not barnacles and salt corrosion level, but still causes problems in the long run. A boat lift is nice to have if you have the ability to put in your own dock or a communal dock with lifts.
Personally dont have to worry with that, as less than 5 miles from multiple ramps here.
Bosslady and I have a system. I drive to the ramp and back down close.
She gets in the truck.
I get on the boat.
I'll back in far enough to fire the motor.
Once its running, she backs it on down, I launch, and she pulls the truck out and parks.
I pull aroumd to the dock and pick her up.
When we get ready to take out, I pull up to the dock and she holds the boat til I back the trailer in, then gets in the truck while I bring the boat around.
Once I load and hook the front strap, she pulls out and drives to a spot where we can secure it all and stow everything for the trip home.
Works well, and no marital upset.

I do some trolling so this style of boat fits my needs perfectly. One of the reasons I bought this is the amount of floor space on one level. I take my dad with me as much as I can so this is easier to get around on with no steps except one for the bow. Figure out what you want and then start pricing and don't only look local. If you don't mind to travel a bit you can find some better deals. I drove from Missouri to Montana for this one. @Lnk because of my job I don't idle well so I left my house at 2AM on a Saturday morning, went to Mount Rushmore, hit Helena Sunday morning to pick up the boat after a 4 hour stay in Billings. Picked up a 49 ford bed in Bend,MT , 4 hour stay in Rapid City and back home at 10 minutes until 5PM Monday night. Total distance 3078 miles. Oh yeah Crocs.

Next door neighbor has almost that exact boat.
Any problems with hard turns under full or near full power?
His doesnt "stick" into a hard power turn so well.
