I should probably put one on it. My boss never installed one. You can come down here and beat his ass for all I care
Just something to think about.
The "safety bar" on the chute just stops the feed wheels. The feed wheels are there to control(and limit) the feed of material into the chipper head(s). The chipper head is turning a bazillian RPMs. It cant be stopped in the amount of time that you can realize you have gotten too close to it. The safety bar is there to "minimize" the parts of you that get chewed up by those sharp high carbon steel knives. Anything that makes it to the chipper head is going to be chips. Dont let that be ANY part of you. Use the forked stick deal, a pusher if it has one, make your own if you need to. And STAY THE FUGG AWAY FROM THE CHUTE. Always load from the side. NEVER get in front of it.
Its been several years, but I used to feed one of those beasts. I've also seen someone lose their arm to one. Sounded just like a limb going through, only more red in the trailer. That was WITH a safety bar. Was 18, and the guy that got into it wasnt much older than me. Messed him up forever. Taught me a GOOD lesson.
We came back to work the next morning. Used the SAME chipper. Just a man down, til they hired another one of us.

I just dont see how it can be.
No matter how advanced we become, there will always be a need for someone to dig dirt that cant be reached with a machine.
How much would it cost for a machine that can build a dwelling unit for people, or a factory?
Are we going to make giant 3D printers to make everything?
Maybe, but whos going to put them together and fix them when they need it? More robots to fix the other robots?
Dont see it.
I was sort of meaning young people don’t like doing manual work anymore something like this pic6A72B290-1DE7-46F5-A13F-5BA5C275B457.png

Fantastic machine. Bandit makes the best chippers in the industry just a couple hours north of me. But its just as dangerous as climbing a tree. Get your glove hung in a limb and you're gone in less than 2 seconds. Thinking you will have time to hit the panic bar is a false hope. Osha interviews with people who have survived chipper accidents has proved that. These people are not whole and usually survived by the grace of God. Whatever respect you already give that machine double it and never become comfortable and complacent around it.
