Can't even try your hardest to get mine to 1150 egt. Cool running engine with modern t4 Borg Warner turbo.
That POS Toyota Surf would hit 900C (1650F) pre turbo under load so fast when i first got it that i'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Multiple mods later and a sustained 600c (1100F) was possible. Learnt a lot from that turd.

Diesel run better a bit hotter. They like 209-210. Many thermostats are at this setting. The warmer the fuel before combustion, the more complete the burn.
then why are duramax thermostats at 180 and 185 and why are there 2 of them ?

Cummins swap?
lol no i not buying a gold box

I'd rather error towards cooler than hotter especially when towing heavy.
with gooseneck and tractor i am about 24000 pounds maybe a touch more

Definitely wouldn't want to run any hotter. At the same time the efficient the more power is being put to the ground instead of wasted heat out the pipe. Nice and easy 2200 RPM with a warm diesel wont hurt a thing. I6 like the warmth a little better. the V8s are a bit different.

about 400 pounds lighter than the cummins or power stroke also
Most diesels are not afraid of weight. And I have/had both. Also had a Ferd 6.6l I6. That's about it though.

Lol mine just lights at 2,200 rpm. Highest water temp I ever seen was 210 up a 6% grade towing. No hotter for me. I got plenty of power so not overly concerned about what little is to be gained. Chit cost to much money to blow up.

I reckon that's the best/worst thing about an egt guage.
You can see how much heat your adding trying to hold a given speed, but just a smidge lighter on the pedal costs hardly any road speed but runs way cooler EGT wise.
So then you're always looking at that instead of the road....
