Mine smokes a little bit but I have big injectors and turbo. If I keep the rpm right it's pretty clean for what it is. Mine was built long before all the epa mandated garbage also. It's the *f-wordtard kids trying to make smoke that's ruined it for everyone else.
I'm sure @Slumberjack can quote the a/f ratio but to me, in a diesel, bulk excess smoke is excess heat my engines can do without. Mild and long lasting for the kiwi fulla.

Can't even try your hardest to get mine to 1150 egt. Cool running engine with modern t4 Borg Warner turbo.

Lol you should that's the number one diesel killer is egt. Water temp on mine is about 200 average. Manual transmission so no gauge for that chit lol.

Can also be done with old school turbos. Ya need 2 though. Smaller one feedin the bigga one.
Converting to modern t4 was the best thing I did to my truck. The new turbo technology is far superior to the old. T4 swap is pretty common on the Cummins also.

Diesel run better a bit hotter. They like 209-210. Many thermostats are at this setting. The warmer the fuel before combustion, the more complete the burn.
