Mornin dipsticks. Another mornin acting like a squirrel here. Last 3 days I saw 17 bucks. One I'd be happy with. Small dudes are horny the bigger one dont seem ready yet. Real weird for this late. Any of you boys get lucky yet ?

I’ve been mostly machining pop ups but I want to make a mandrel for machining the squish a little at a time. I’ve done it with sand paper on a piston and it’s not for me! Not knocking anyone who does of course. I just want to be able to machine a squish band at least.040” and I don’t have the patience to sand that much out lol

It's a tricky operation doing a facing cut with a boring bar in a blind hole, but once you get comfortable with it, you'll wonder why you avoided it.

Yessir I’ve used it on a couple. The lathe is at work so I took .030”off the base and .020” off the squish and sanded the rest. It would be much easier if I had the lathe at home where I build my saws.

True sentiment.
My initial issue was gearing up for it, once I figured out how to affordably get a 4 jaw chuck in the lathe, I was all in after that. Then the learning process over the different boring bars, clamp downs etc. etc..

...in good time young grasshopper, in good time.
I’ve done just about all other engines but I think I’ve found saws most pleasing because they are the cheapest to modify if you don’t mind doing the work. Maybe one day I’ll be happy with my saw work but I just need the experience of which ones like what. I can port pretty decent and I can machine. But I live in an area where nobody plays with saws. This is outboard motor territory. I’ve built lots of em. But my hands are too tired to fiddle with tohatsu and Suzuki broken off bolts. I got a job so I’ve been teaching others the outboard secrets. I wanna play with saws because they are fun!
