Non-Runner 044 price?

Got a kid trying to sell me a non-runner 044.
Says it has good compression & yet needs carb work.
I asked him about piston/cylinder, crankshaft, other essentials...says they're ok.
Wants $250 for it.
What do you studs think...last time I bought a non-runner 044 was about 3-4 yrs ago for $120.

Stihls seem to get a premium I would say it’s worth at least 150. It looks complete and not busted up. Pull the muffler cover. If the inside don’t look terrible 200-250 isn’t completely out of line if the fuel system just needs a freshen up.

I treat every non running saw as blown up and the majority of the time I am right in that assessment. Ask them why they won't repair what they say is wrong with it? Why don't they want to get the extra money that a running saw would give them? The bs meter should be reading high after that. At this point make a realistic offer that protects yourself from a scam and if they don't take it, walk.

I agree. When someone tells me something just needs a $5 part to be worth millions again my bs meter pegs

Double the CCs +$$
044 70cc =$140 (based on condition as well)
Thats "comfortable" range for me.
Always varies with condition of the saw as well.
Just my .02

'Just needs carb work'. If I only had a nickel every time.... Every saw I have is tuned whenever needs carb work. Only twice needed a new carb.

good eye. . I didn’t spot that... but my eyes were on the 10 or 12mm case shape by the oil cap
So it# a builder saw in my eyes

But I will say two things if you go.. take a carb and check the piston. Look at the piston, if it’s ok then swap your carb if it runs and the piston don’t score. The seller is right..

but really it’s an old saw and could do with a rebuild .so it’s parts or a builder saw.
